Activities
A1.1.1 Activity title: brief description of the activity and methodology
A.1.1.1 Conduct sensitization
meetings to the District Agriculture Extension Committee (DAEC) and District
Executive Committee (DEC) in district of Lilongwe on the project plans and
goals in the district.
A1.1.2 Conduct sensitization meeting to the Area
Development Committee (ADC) and Village development Committee (VDC) in district
of Lilongwe about the project implementation plans.
A1.1.3 Conducting awareness raising sessions for the
communities regarding forest use and catchment management in district of
Lilongwe.
A1.1.4 Establish Tree nurseries in preparation for
tree planting on the 10 hectors land during tree planting seasons.
A1.1.5
Planting of trees on 20
hectares of land in community forests in TA Dzalanyama forestduring tree
planting seasons.
A1.2.1 Construct fire breaks in both the 20 hectares
newly tree planted area and the 10 hectaresregenerated area to keep the tree
from catching fire. The fire breaks will be constructed by the community clubs
overseeing the area both during tree planting and 6 months after tree planting.
A1.2.2 Establish community structures and
institutions such as Natural Resources committee and forest by-laws to be
responsible for taking care of the forests. The members will be selected by the
village headmen and the Government forestry department.
A1.2.3 Development and set up by laws for forest and
trees management in Dzalanyama forest through community meetings led by the
project.
A1.2.4 Recruit guards to take care of the Forest for
two years by the project.
A1.2.5 Establish 2 irrigation systems in Dzalanyama
forest for watering the trees and seedlings on the planted areas.
A2.1.1 Purchase Beehives by
the project to be distributed and installed in the Dzalanyama forests.
A2.1.2 The Project to distribute at least 200
beehives and Install beehives in the Dzalanyama forest for beekeeping and honey
production

2.1.3 Harvest and process 15 Tons
of Honey annually from the installed 200 beehives by the community clubs
A2.1.4 Distribute and sell honey produced by the
community clubs from the installed 200 beehives to project off takers Bi
annually.
A2.2.1 Establish 2 clubs consisting of women and
youth in community
A2.3.1
Conduct 3 trainings to women
and youth in the clubs in goat production and management, business, leadership
and group dynamics. 1 annually to new clubs.
A2.3.2 Facilitate improved goat housing construction
by beneficiaries to ensure compliance to recommended guidelines.
A2.3.3 Source and distribute start up goats to lead
women and youths who will later on pass on to other members when they start
producing.
A2.3.4 Provide medications for the goats
A3.1.1 The
Project to purchase 6 acres of land for establishing permaculture demostration
fields.
A3.1.2
To establish 1 permaculture
demonstration gardens in Masumbankhunda community for conducting demonstration
activities for the communities.
A3.2.1 The project to source and purchase 2 drip
irrigation systems for the project Permaculture demonstrations activities.
A3.2.2 The
project together with the community clubs to set up and install 1 irrigation
systems for permaculture farming in Masumbankhunda on a 6 acre land area.
A3.
3.1 Conduct 2 annual
demonstration trainings on the established demonstration gardens to train
farmers on permaculture activities.
A3.3 2 Monitor the implementation of the permaculture demonstration trainings on 200 household farmers in their gardens.
Monitoring and Evaluation
The Honey Production, Climate Resilient Agriculture and Tree Planting for
Dzalanyama Forest Biodiversity Conservation project monitoring and evaluation
plan will provide real time information to help the project make any necessary
adjustments to keep the project on track.
This will allow project officers to monitor the project progress, track
expenditure and ensure that implemented activities adhere to the established
plans. With the project log frame in place explaining the project goal,
specific goals, outputs, outcomes and activities, the project objectives and
goals are clear and measurable. The project aims to restore forest cover in
Dzalanyama forest reserve and empower Masambankhunda community through
livelihoods activities and forest management skills to help restore loss of biodiversity
in the forest and reduce poverty among the community members. To achieve this, at
least 20 hectares will be planted with indigenous and fruit trees such as
Miombo (Brachystegia spp) and 150 hectors managed for regeneration inside
Dzalanyama Forest Reserve managed in Dzalanyama forest Reserve, 200 beehives will
be set up on 15 acres of land in Dzalanyama Forest reserve, 240 women and
youths will engage in goat production for household economic activities and 2
Permaculture demonstration gardens will be established for intercropping, water
conservation, agroforestry, irrigation farming and organic manure making.
Through continuous monitoring for adherence and collection of necessary data,
the project will achieve its objectives within specified period and intended
budget with the expected quality. In this project, the project team together
with the project beneficiaries will play important role in the implementation
of project activities with the guidance of the project Monitoring and Evaluation
officer. The Project manager, Environment officer, Administration and Finance
Officers will be responsible for the implementation of the project in the
communities through conducting of project activities, purchasing of necessary
equipments and ensuring participation of beneficiaries, whereas the Monitoring
and Evaluation Officer will keep track of the project adherence to the
established plans and help make necessary adjustments through monitoring of
project activities, collecting of necessary data and providing progress
reviews.
