Background Information

CCDR, Non-Profit Organization

Centre for Child Development and Research is a local Non-Governmental Organization registered under the Trustees Incorporation Act in 2013 with registration number TR/INC:6007 and a member of CONGOMA and NGORA. CCDR was established in 2013 with the belief that children and youths are the seed of society and that their well-being is essential for sustainable development of citizenry.

CCDR operates under a Board of Trustees with high standing members in the society and drawn from a variety of disciplines. The Board has seven (7) members elected in their capacity to different responsibilities.


Vision

CCDR envisions a Malawi where children and families thrive and have the opportunity to grow and develop to their full potential in a caring, supportive and protective environment full of natural and biological resources that facilitates a well-rounded development of citizenry essential for sustainable development.

Mission Statement

CCDR works with families, communities, and other partners to create a caring, protective, and supportive environment for children, youth and families through research, protection of and conservation of environment, provision of education, water, health, STEM and practising agribusiness for sustainable socio-economic progress.

Programs and Activities

CCDR uses the CSP Enviro Programme Model where C-Caring, S-Supportive, and P-Protection interventions across all the domains of child development to achieve its goals. CCDR also mainstreams gender, HIV and AIDS, Environmental and climate change, and human rights in all its programs. We use a grass-root Asset-Based resource mobilization approach that integrates communities and their representatives to plan and mobilize resources that address grass-root problems as well as tapping opportunities that support its children and vulnerable people.

    MASIKINI CYCLONE FREDDY HOUSING PROJECT.

    In 2023 cyclone Fredy affected chiradzuru districts and among the affected people were from masikini village a target area for CCDR. The birth of masikini relief support project was a response to cyclone Freddy. CCDR Programs Manager address the Chiefs and Cyclone Freddy affected families about the relief support and housing project at GVH Masikini in Chiradzulu District

    CCDR use partnership as one of its core values. So far, CCDR is working with stakeholders at local, national, and international levels. Examples; Ministries and Governments departments, Area Development Committees, District Councils, Community Based organizations, International Organizations, International Companies, Charitable Foundations like; UNICEF, Universal Basic Income, Action Aid, POSIVO Malawi, MACRO, FISD Malawi, Limbe Leaf tobacco Company, Korea Hope Foundation, Keidanren Nature Conservation Fund, Earth Guardian, World Connect, Friends of Malawi Foundation and many more.

    Impact Area
  • Currently, CCDR is implementing its community based interventions in Lilongwe, Salima and Dowa districts in the central region, Chiradzulu and Zomba districts in the Southern region, and Mzimba district in the northern region.
  • Previously CCDR implemented its community based projects in Kasungu, Ntcheu, Zomba, Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzimba.
  • In May 2023 CCDR secured a grant from Korea Hope Foundation to build 29 houses in GVH Masikini in Chiradzulu as a response to Cyclone Freddy effects.
  • In May 2022 CCDR secured a grant from Korea Hope Foundation to implement women social economic program, through goats pass on project.
  • In May 2021 CCDR secured a grant from Korea Hope Foundation to implement women empowerment intervention through Goats pass on project in Chiradzulu
  • In July to October 2021 CCDR implemented a project which involved cleaning up of cities, banning of thin plastic papers and promoting of reusable paper bags.
  • In March 2021, CCDR secured a grant from KCN of Japan to implement an environmental management and economic empowerment project called “Honey Production, Climate Resilient Agriculture and Tree Planting for Dzalanyama Forest Biodiversity Conservation”. The project will benefit more than 500 community members including women living surrounding Dzalanyama forest.
  • In 2019-2020 CCDR implemented a project called Green village (Sustainable Energy Solutions) in Mzimba district. The project was funded by World Connect. The project aimed at connecting rural and urban slam communities to off-grid solar power by selling solar lanterns to members of Mutuzuzu community in Mzimba district.
  • In 2020 CCDR implemented a monitoring activity of Savings and Loans Associations Monitoring and Evaluation project with support from Limbe Leaf.
  • In 2018-2020 CCDR with help from Limbe Leaf Malawi and Friends of Malawi constructed 2 community based child centres in Malovu and Chipeni in Dowa district.
  • From June 2021 to April 2023 CCCDR has been and will be implementing the phase 1 and 2 of Honey Production, Climate Resilient Agriculture and Tree Planting for Dzalanyama Forest Biodiversity Conservation” project. So far CCDR team together with the community members has planted 25000 trees. CCDR team together with the community have set up 43 beehives for honey production. As of 30th March 2022, a permaculture farm was also established and now women and youth are using the farm to cultivate crops for foods and for cash.   • In 2021 CCDR implemented a Goats pass on Program in Maskini village where we distributed 44 goats for manure and income generation to 20 women. $4,000 supported by Korean Hope Foundation
  • In 2021 CCDR implemented a Cleaning of Lilongwe City Centre project-US$500 supported by Earth Guardian
  • CCDR implemented a book Publication project -US$5000 supported by Atlas Network in 2021
  • In 2020 CCDR implemented a Green village project-$7000 supported by World Connect.
